Calle Miguel Dasso in Lima, Perú is a classic hotspot for Peruvians due to all the different restaurants, coffee shops, and stores on this street. By simply walking a few steps on this street, you'll see all kinds of people, from elderly women drinking tea, to teenagers shopping in boutiques and children playing in the park. Ranging from high-end restaurants like the world-renowned Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant Osaka to classic everyday coffee shops like Starbucks, Dasso has it all. One of my personal favorite restaurants on this popular street is Bottega Dasso.
Bottega Dasso, described on their Instagram as a “modern American” restaurant, serves everything from all-American classics like burger and fries, and mac and cheese to more exotic and unique dishes like Pesca al Curry and Pollo Chasseur. Like Miguel Dasso, Bottega Dasso is able to balance having unique and mature dishes for the elderly while also keeping simple classics for the younger generations. Bottega Dasso’s menu acknowledges the diversity of ages that walk through Miguel Dasso and chooses to incorporate that in their menu. My first time eating at Bottega Dasso was for a friend's birthday, and I chose to get their pasta with pesto sauce, which is currently no longer on the menu due to their rotating/changing menu. The pasta, although delicious, made me feel extremely full, and sick after eating it. So the next time I went back, I knew to try something different.
The next time I went back was a few months later, for dinner with friends. I shared some truffle cheese fries, and salmon tartare with my friends as a starter, and I can confidently say they are the best starters I have ever had at any restaurant. The truffle cheese fries are brought out fresh and crispy, and the cheese is poured onto them right at your table. The cheese is very rich and compliments the truffle oil perfectly. The salmon tartare is the perfect contrast, being fresh and light, it is drizzled with a vinegar sauce which makes it sweet, and paired with the crunchy toast and soft avocado, it has the perfect texture. For my entre, I chose to get the spicy fusilli, which is now what I get every time I go (It is no longer on the menu, but if you ask for it they can still make it). The creamy tomato spicy fusilli sauce is extremely spicy, yet addicting, it'll keep you eating even though you’ll feel your mouth on fire. To wash it all down, I choose to have my staple, a Coke Zero. Or a Shirley Temple, which is also one of the best I've had.
Bottega Dasso’s effort to mix American classics with unique dishes makes them stand apart from all the other coffee shops and restaurants in Miguel Dasso. Their elevated American dishes have made them a staple to Peruvians, ranging from teenagers to the elderly. Making them the perfect dinner spot for a dinner with friends, date night, or birthday.
