The FDR track team competed in the ADCA 2024 tournament on September 11 and 12 at the Videna Olympic Complex in Lima, Perú, demonstrating teamwork, endurance, and hunger for victory.

The school brought together 25 students among middle schoolers and high schoolers to compete in the ADCA track meet hosted by Markham College. The athletes have been assiduously training during the season to be ready for this epic event. It was a fantastic opportunity for all students to compete against traditional opponent schools such as Newton, Humboldt, San Silvestre, Raimondi, and others. Their hard work paid off as they showed magnificent performance in various disciplines going from sprints and hurdles to long-distance and field events.

Track and Field, whose official name is Athletics, is a sport consisting of multiple events. As the name states, it is made up of both track and field events. To mention a few that are in the track there is running in its various disciplines: 100 meters, 300 meters, 400 meters, long-distance running, 1000 meters and 2000 meters, relays at various distances and hurdles. On the other branch, field events refers to disciplines such as javelin throw, discus throw, shot put, high, and long jump.

The athletes were divided into two categories; juniors and seniors. Juniors were mostly 8th graders, 9th graders, and sophomores, whereas seniors were  high schoolers.

Results

In 100m hurdles, junior boys managed to improve marks from 19.22 sec in 2023, down to 19.09, still not enough to make it to the podium, but a great improvement overall. Discus throw surprised with a massive improvement. In 2023 junior boys made it to the 4th place with a distance of 26.96m, but this year FDR got a GOLD medal with a mark of 36.62m. This was our first participation in shot put and FDR did not disappoint, getting a silver medal with a distance of 11.19m. In the Javelin throw, FDR won a silver medal in 2023 with a distance of 29.85m. Moreover, in 2024 FRD repeated the podium, beating its own mark with a distance of 39.05 for a gold medal. In high jump, FDR improved marks from 1.4m in 2023 to 1.49m in 2024. It means a positive move from 8th to 4th place in a year. Let’s keep working hard to make it to the podium next year.

Senior boys brought two medals, bronze in shot put with a mark of 11.32m, and gold in javelin with an outstanding mark of 37.17m.

Junior girls showed significant improvement in their performance in the different disciplines. It was not enough to make it to the podium this time, but it is worth giving visibility to their results. In 2023, FDR had a mark of 14.35m at shot put, whereas this year that mark was improved to 16.87m. FDR ended in the 6th place, but it is clear that there is continuous improvement that will materialize in medals next year. In the long jump, FDR ended in 14th place in 2023 with a mark of 3.04m. This year, FDR jumped to 7th place with an improved mark of 3.76m. Let’s keep up the hard work to make it to the podium in 2025!

Finally, senior girls conquered the podium in different disciplines. FDR got a silver medal at 4x100 relays with a mark of 57:32:00. Likewise, another silver medal was achieved at the long jump with a mark of 4.27m. Last but not least, FDR got a gold medal at the javelin throw with a mark of 27.03.

Conclusion

Mathematicians say that statistics never lie. It seems that the numbers are revealing the hard work by achieving better and better marks year-on-year. To continue on the right path, it is important that FDR athletes keep working hard as a team, with motivation, humbleness and respect toward our coaches.

According to NCSA College Recruiting, the following recommendations are key for an athlete to make a real difference in performance beyond training, physical work, and special diet.
